3D Modeling and Printing Summer Class

Create your own 3D designs.

3D printers are arguably one of the most important inventions of the 21st century.

From medicine to mechanical engineering, the applications of the 3D printer are both endless and amazing. This course will help you breathe life into your ideas and sketches and transform 2D ideas into 3D creations. You will learn how to use Google sketchup technology and other open-source platforms to model and prepare your 3D designs for export and printing. Familiarity with all these tools will help you take a concept from sketch to a 3D model before becoming an actual 3D creation. After receiving a virtual primer on the 3D printing process and using polygonal geometry to efficiently realize your design ideas, you will learn how to manufacture designs at home via professional services like Shapeways. If all of this sounds complicated, don't worry, it's not! You'll dive right into designing and be a pro before the end of the week.

About Enrichment

At Enrichment for High School Students, you can pick from over 40 class offerings in the arts, science, sports, and academics. Pick one class for the morning and one class for the afternoon. You’ll pick two new classes for each week of your stay with us. There is no limit to what you can accomplish, plenty of space for imagination, and no right or wrong way to experience JKCP, the canvas is yours. We recommend doing something you already love for one of your classes and trying something completely new for the other! Summer at JKCP is the perfect time to explore a brand new interest!
