The city of New Orleans has come a long way since August 29th, 2005, and the Saints’ 31-17 Super Bowl win over the Indianapolis Colts resonated as a symbolical convergence of five year’s worth of concentrated rehabilitation. Everyone remembers the shots of a desolate Bourbon Street after Katrina wreaked its havoc on Southern Louisiana, so – last night – it was thrilling to see the landmark regain its customary jocundity. The Saints weren’t favorites in the contest and – mounting a come from behind victory – overcame the greatest point deficit in Super Bowl history to win their first Super Bowl. On paper, it was an impossible victory. Dogged persistence, however, proved the contrary. I can’t think of a better conceit to sum up the progress of the city, itself. Does work remain? Absolutely. Neither team nor town can rest on their laurels, but everyone at Julian Krinsky Camps & Programs could not be happier that New Orleans can add another – this time triumphant – date to their historic calendar: February 7th, 2010.
